Short answer: SkyBitz SMARTank (also written SmartTank) is a tank level monitoring system built mostly for fuel, propane, lubricant and chemical distributors who keep customer tanks filled. Oil and gas is one of its markets, not its whole identity. If your job is knowing when to send the truck, it does that well. If you run leases and also need casing or flowline pressure and whether the compressor is running, you need a whole-site monitor. TinyPumper watches tanks, pressures and runtime on one gateway, and your team installs it in 8 minutes.

A full tank is one problem on a lease. The compressor that quit at 1 a.m. and the casing pressure that crept up all week are the others, and a tank inventory system was never built to see them. If you’re weighing every option, start with our guide to oilfield monitoring alternatives.

Is SkyBitz SMARTank or TinyPumper the Better Fit for My Lease?

It depends on the job. If you’re a fuel, lube or chemical distributor keeping customer tanks filled, SmartTank’s delivery forecasting and dispatch reports are built for that, and SkyBitz is a fair pick. If you’re a producer who needs tank levels plus casing or flowline pressure and compressor runtime on a lease, TinyPumper watches all three on one gateway. As of November 2026, it’s $349 a sensor, one-time setup, then one flat rate a month per site. If you need to control the well, look at oil and gas SCADA.

What Is SkyBitz SMARTank?

SkyBitz SMARTank is a remote tank monitoring system: monitors on the tank, a data connection, and the SmartTank web portal and mobile app. The best-known monitor is the ST90, which lowers a differential pressure probe to the bottom of the tank and works out level and volume from it (SkyBitz ST90 manual, January 2024).

SkyBitz says SmartTank “was purpose-built for fuel, propane, and lubricant delivery” (SkyBitz website, October 2026). Its tank monitoring page names lubricant and fuel distributors, chemical distributors, agriculture, water and gas distributors as the users (SkyBitz Tank Monitoring page, July 2026). So oil and gas is one market among several. That’s a focused product with a clear job, and we aren’t going to knock it for doing what it says.

What Does SkyBitz SMARTank Do Well?

  • Delivery planning. The portal forecasts “Date to Order” and “Date to Empty,” maps tanks, and runs delivery efficiency reports (SkyBitz SmartTank portal page, July 2026). If you run trucks, that’s real value.
  • A long track record. One petroleum distributor says it has installed SkyBitz tank sensors itself for almost twenty years (SkyBitz S.A. White Oil case study, July 2026).
  • Dense tank farms. One ST90 LTE Uplink can collect up to 32 client monitors within 300 feet line of sight, so fewer tanks need their own data line (SkyBitz ST90 LTE Uplink page, October 2026).
  • Corrosive chemicals. SkyBitz sells a ceramic-coated sensor setup for aggressive chemicals (SkyBitz ST90 product family page, October 2026).
  • Hazardous locations, on the right model. The separate ST95 is certified intrinsically safe for Class I, Division 1, Group D (SkyBitz ST95 datasheet, July 2026).
  • A satellite option. SkyBitz sells a separate ST90 Satellite model for tanks with no LTE coverage (SkyBitz ST90 Satellite page, October 2026).

If you manage hundreds of customer tanks and your question is “who needs product, and when,” SmartTank was made for you.

Where Does SMARTank Stop on an Oil Lease?

SmartTank answers “how much is in the tank and when will it run out.” On a lease, the costly surprises usually come from somewhere else:

  • Pressure takes extra work. The standard ST90 uses pressure to measure liquid level. Watching casing, tubing or flowline pressure means wiring a third-party transducer into an Uplink’s two 4-20 mA inputs (SkyBitz ST90 LTE Uplink page, October 2026).
  • Runtime isn’t published. We found no engine or compressor runtime feature in SkyBitz’s ST90 material (SkyBitz website, October 2026).
  • Readings are scheduled. The ST90 defaults to one scheduled call a day, plus calls when the level changes by a set amount (SkyBitz ST90 manual, January 2024). More calls shorten battery life: up to 20 months at one call a day, up to 14 months at three (SkyBitz ST90 manual, January 2024).
  • Install is in the fluid. The ST90 screws into a 2-inch opening and its probe hangs in the tank (SkyBitz ST90 Quick Start Guide, October 2026). The manual says only qualified service personnel should install it.
  • The ST90 isn’t the hazardous-location model. That’s the ST95, so check the exact model before it goes on a classified tank.
  • Price isn’t published. SkyBitz lists no ST90 or SmartTank subscription price, and its manual mentions possible activation and early termination fees set in a separate rate plan (SkyBitz ST90 manual, January 2024).
  • The app gets rough reviews. The SMARTank Android app showed about 2.4 out of 5 from 53 reviews, with users reporting login trouble and falling back to the web portal (Google Play listing, October 2026).

None of that makes SmartTank a bad product. It makes it a delivery tool, not a lease monitor.

When Is TinyPumper the Better SMARTank Alternative?

  • You need more than the tank: pressures and runtime on the same lease.
  • You want alerts the moment something crosses the line, not at the next daily call.
  • You want one price per site, so adding a tank or a pressure sensor doesn’t add a monthly charge.
  • Your leases sit in dead zones, and you don’t want to pick a different model for each one.
  • You want your pumper to put it in himself. No electrician, no trenching, no service call.

Producers running TinyPumper report cutting lease runs by 30 to 50 percent and catching failures days sooner. Here’s the honest limit: TinyPumper watches, it doesn’t control. No shut-ins, no pump adjustments. You get the upside of knowing without paying for SCADA. See how it fits across the lease in our oil well monitoring systems guide and our oilfield tank monitoring guide.

TinyPumper is GreaseBook’s sister product. It has 100% continental US coverage, because we use satellite. It takes up to 8 sensors per gateway. Every order carries a 60-day money-back guarantee, and you get lifetime replacement on all equipment. Every well with a TinyPumper sensor gets free Greasebook.

Need the tank, the pressure and the compressor on one screen?

TinyPumper watches all three on one gateway. $349 a sensor, one-time setup, then one flat rate a month per site. 60-day money-back.

When Is SkyBitz SMARTank the Better Fit?

If you’re a distributor and the tank is the customer, SmartTank’s forecasting, route density and delivery reports are the point, and TinyPumper isn’t trying to be a dispatch tool. If you run a dense tank farm of chemical or fuel tanks close together, the Uplink’s client setup is a smart way to cut data lines. And if you need full control of an instrumented facility, neither one is the answer.

What Do People Mean When They Search SkyBitz, SMARTank or Smart Tank?

The names get mixed up a lot, so here’s what each search usually means:

  • “skybitz”, “sky bitz” and “skybitz inc” all point to SkyBitz, a brand of AMETEK Telular. SkyBitz Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telular, a business unit of AMETEK (SkyBitz ST95 datasheet, July 2026).
  • “smartank”, “smart tank by skybitz” and “smartank by skybitz” are the SkyBitz tank monitoring line. SkyBitz spells it both SMARTank and SmartTank.
  • “skybitz tank monitoring” is the same SmartTank product family covered on this page.
  • “smartank st90” is the ST90 monitor, once sold as the TankLink 90 and the SMARTank 90 (SkyBitz company history, 2026).
  • “smartank app” is the SMARTank mobile app on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
  • “smartank com”, “smartank com portal”, “skybitz.com”, “skybitz smart tank login” and https://smx.skybitz.com are people looking for SkyBitz’s websites and sign-in pages. That login belongs to SkyBitz, so reach SkyBitz support for account help. We can’t get you in.
  • “skybitz trailer tracking”, “skybitz tracking” and “skybitz petroleum logistics” are other SkyBitz businesses. SkyBitz lists tank monitoring, trailer tracking and petroleum logistics as its three lines (SkyBitz homepage, July 2026). Trailer tracking isn’t tank monitoring, and it isn’t something TinyPumper does.

Two Questions to Ask Any Tank Monitor

  1. Does the sensor sit in the fluid? Probes that hang in produced water can corrode, freeze and foul over time. TinyPumper’s radar mounts on top and never touches it.
  2. What happens the day it fails? TinyPumper ships a new one under lifetime replacement. Get every vendor’s answer in writing.

Who This Page Is Not For

This page isn’t for fuel, lube, propane or chemical distributors whose real job is delivery planning. SmartTank was built for you. It also isn’t for producers who need full SCADA control. For the full field of options, go back to the oilfield monitoring alternatives hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SkyBitz SMARTank?

SkyBitz SMARTank, also written SmartTank, is a tank level monitoring system from SkyBitz, a brand of AMETEK Telular. It pairs tank monitors such as the ST90 with the SmartTank web portal and mobile app. It was built mainly for distributors of fuel, propane, lubricants and chemicals who keep customer tanks filled, with forecasting, delivery reports and dispatch tools. Oil and gas is one market it serves among several.

What is the best SkyBitz SMARTank alternative for oil and gas?

If you only need tank inventory and delivery planning, SmartTank or another tank gauge fits. If you run leases and also need casing, tubing or flowline pressure and engine or compressor runtime, a whole-site monitor is the better alternative. TinyPumper watches tanks, pressures and runtime on one gateway, for one flat rate per site, and your team self-installs it in 8 minutes with no electrician.

How much does SkyBitz SMARTank cost?

SkyBitz does not publish ST90 or SmartTank subscription prices on its site (SkyBitz website, October 2026). Its ST90 manual says data access requires a monitoring service agreement and mentions possible activation and early termination fees set in a separate rate plan. Ask for the full order form before you sign. TinyPumper is $349 a sensor, one-time setup, then one flat rate a month per site.

Does the SkyBitz ST90 work in a dead zone?

The ST90 LTE units need AT&T or Verizon LTE coverage at the tank (SkyBitz ST90 LTE page, October 2026). SkyBitz sells a separate ST90 Satellite model for sites without that coverage, so you have to pick the right model for each tank up front. TinyPumper gives 100% continental US coverage because we use satellite, so a lease in a dead zone still reports.

Yes, by lineage. Telular created TankLink in 2008, and the TankLink 90 monitor was later sold as the SMARTank 90 and then the SkyBitz ST90 (SkyBitz company history, 2026). Older parts, batteries and manuals often still carry the TankLink or Telular name, which is why searches for TankLink ST90 lead back to the same product line.

Does TinyPumper’s tank sensor touch the fluid?

No. TinyPumper uses a radar sensor that mounts on top of the tank and reads the level without touching the oil or water. That means nothing to corrode, freeze or gunk up. If a device ever fails, lifetime replacement covers it, and every order comes with a 60-day money-back trial with return shipping paid.
